Microsoft Windows Emulator
In 2014, we created a modular digital platform to introduce people to the new wave of Microsoft Windows devices, starting with Microsoft’s Windows Phone, and scaling it up for wearables, tablets and PCs—demonstrating the best of Windows 10 in a personal, humanized video experience.
The Ask
Introduce Windows 10 to everyone: anytime, anywhere, on any device or operating system.
The Challenge
Microsoft has a broad B2B and B2C ecosystem. We were required to now only create a great experience to introduce the new Windows OS across all devices, but we had to create a system to empower these stories to be told on Microsoft’s first party properties, as well as in retail experiences and by third party partners.
The Experience
Customers all over the world where able to easily access bite-sized content focused on real people, getting real tasks done on a wide range of scenarios. We know human-centric video stories where the most compelling way to tell relevant stories.
We created a mini studio in our office and shoot hundreds of micro-videos across all devices and functions. We then made them available on web, app, retail and partner experiences, with easy to browse categories and simple navigation.
The Solution
We created a modular content infrastructure system on Microsoft’s Azure Cloud, which enabled our team, first party and even third-party content admins to customize the Microsoft Emulator experience according to their own unique needs.
Everything on the experience was modular, so different teams and partners could access the content modules and customize order, layout, look and feel, language and color schemes.
We also create an intuitive, real-time flow management pipeline, so content could get in automatically, while experiences could be tailored, approved and published with ease, while keeping brand and content consistency across multiple experiences.
Results
The online version got more than 6.9 million visits, with more than 22.1 million videos watched. More importantly, the click-through rate to products got up to 42%.
The system supported more than 20 different languages, including right-to-left languages, and powered B2C responsive web properties, native apps across retail, B2B solutions for partners, and post-purchase experiences for customer satisfaction increase.
We even launched Windows 10 with the Microsoft Emulator taking over the Microsoft’s Windows 10 homepage, achieving the most site visits during the launch campaign with virtually zero issues, quite an achievement for a world-wide, large-scale campaign.
